Henry Sackett Hogbin, son of John Hogbin and Mary Sackett, was born in St Lawrence in Thanet, KentG, on 6 August 1808 and baptized there on 28 August 1808.1 He died aged 72 in Farnham, SurreyG, in 1881.2 He married in Ramsgate, KentG, on 22 March 1831, Emily Scott Rook, daughter of William Rook.3 Emily was born in Boughton under Blean, KentG, in about 1809.4 She died in Farnham, SurreyG, in 1887.5
     In 1841 Henry was living at King Street, RamsgateG, and was recorded in the census as Henry Hogbin, a grocer, aged 30+ and born in Kent. Living with him were his wife Emily, 30+, and their children, Emily, 9, Susannah, 7, and Henry, aged five.6
     In 1851 he was living at 2 Wellington Cottages, RamsgateG, and was recorded as Henry S Hogbin, a tea dealer, aged 42 and born in St Lawrence. Living with him were his wife Emily, 42, and their children, Henry, 15, and Mary, aged six. Also in the household were Emily's widowed father William Rook and her sister Sabina. Henry's brother Richard and his family were living next door.7
     In 1861 he was living at 2 Strand, Walmer, KentG, and was recorded as Henry S Hogben, a confectioner, aged 50. Living with him were his wife Emily, 51, and their daughters, Emily, 26, and Mary, 16.8
     In 1871 he was living at 18 Strand, WalmerG, and was recorded as Henry S Hogbin, a baker, aged 60. Living with him were his wife Emily, 61, their unmarried daughter Emily, 37, their widowed son Henry, 34, and son Henry's children, Henry, 10, and Rosa, aged seven.9
     Henry and Emily moved to Haggerston, Shoreditch, London, in January 1874. They moved again in September 1878 to Dalston, Hackney, London, where they became dependent on Poor Law relief. The Hackney Union imposed an order in February 1879 for their removal back to Shoreditch, deemed to have been their most recent legal residence.10
     In 1881 Henry's widow Emily was living at 2 York Terrace, Frimley Road, Frimley, SurreyG, in the household of her daughter Mary and son-in-law William Neville, and was recorded in the census as Emily Hogbin, a widow aged 70.11
