Edward Sackett, an ironmonger, son of John Sackett and Sarah Tucker, was born in Margate, KentG, in 18162 and baptized at St John in ThanetG on 21 April 1816.3 He died aged 68 at 31 Hare Street, Woolwich, KentG, on 22 April 18844,5 and was buried at Woolwich Cemetery, GreenwichG, on 29 April 1884.6 He married at St John in ThanetG on 27 July 1843, Louisa Pegden, daughter of Nicholas Pegden and Elizabeth Newman.7,8 Louisa was born in MargateG in about 1822.7 She died aged 55 in WoolwichG on 24 March 18779 and was buried at Woolwich Cemetery, GreenwichG, on 29 March 1877.10
     In 1851 Edward was living at 139 High Street, St John's, Margate, KentG, and was recorded in the census as Edward Sackett, an ironmonger, head of household, married, aged 36, and born in Margate. Living with him were his wife Louisa, aged 29, and also born in Margate, and their children, Louisa, 4, and Edward, aged two. Also in the household was a female house servant.11
     In 1871 he was living at 31 & 32 Hare Street, Woolwich, KentG, and was recorded as Edward Sackett, an ironmonger, head of household, married, aged 55, and born in Margate. Living with him were his wife Louisa, aged 49, and their unmarried children, Louisa (24), Edward (22), Julia (18), John (16), Emily Sackett, (11), and Eleanor (10). Also in the household was a female domestic servant.12
     In 1881 he was living at 31 & 32 Hare Street, Woolwich, KentG, and was recorded as Edward Sackett, an ironmonger, head of household, a widower, aged 64, and born in Margate. Living with him were his unmarried children, Louisa (30), John (24), Emily (20), and Eleanor (18). Also in the household were visitors, Mary Smith (22), and two-year-old Louisa Smith, presumably Mary's daughter, and a domestic servant, Alice Simmons.13
     Edward's will, made in Woolwich, KentG, was proved at the Principal Probate Registry on 23 August 1884. He appointed his son Edward and daughter Louisa as executors. His personal estate was valued at £7,835.14
