James M Sacket, son of Enoch Sacket and Celestia Doane, was born in Westfield, Hampden County, MassachusettsG, on 15 September 1842.1,2,3 He was unmarried.2
In 1850 James was living in WestfieldG in the household of his parents Enoch and Celestia, and was recorded in the census as James Sacket, aged seven, and born in Massachusetts.4
In 1860 he was living in WestfieldG in the household of his parents Enoch and Celestia, and was recorded as James M Sacket, a farm laborer, aged 18.5
In 1870 he was living in WestfieldG and was recorded as James Sackett, a farmer, aged 26. Also in the household were James's brother Thomas, 30, sisters, Liddie, 25, Ella, 33, and Fanny, 13, and their widowed mother Celestia, aged 53.6
James was included in a list of principal tax payers of Westfield published in the Westfield News-Letter in August 1872.7
James was named as a beneficiary in the will of his great-aunt Harriet Sacket made in WestfieldG on 29 October 1849. He was left a sum of $100 but, following Harriet's death some years later in 1875 and the realisation of her assets, the sum actually inherited was $250.8
In 1880 he was living in WestfieldG and was recorded as James M Sackett, a farm laborer, head of household, single, aged 37 and born in Massachusetts. Living with him were his unmarried sisters, Lydia, 35, and Ella, 32, and niece Jennie Paige, aged eight.9
