Obituary for:
George Sackett (1924–2011)

George B. Sackett, Sr., 87, of Brookview, set sail on his final voyage on Sunday, July 3, 2011, at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge, Md., surrounded by his family.
He was born in Hallstead, on January 2, 1924, and was a son of the late Floyd W. and Mary Snow Sackett.
He attended schools in Johnson City, N.Y., and also attended college at Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City.
During World War II, Mr. Sackett served in the U.S. Army's 45th Infantry Division and served in Africa, Sicily, Italy, and Anzio.
On June 26, 1946 he was married to the former Margaret Hulbert.
George is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret H. Sackett: his five children: George B. Sackett Jr. and his wife Kim, Colette (Sutherland) Lancaster and her husband Roxy, Rudi L. Sackett and his wife Ramona, Loré L. Sackett, and Eric L. Sackett and his wife Debra; grandchildren: Cindy Rosado, John Atkinson, Jason Lancaster, Kimberly (Sackett) Gleaton, Jacob Sackett-Sanders and Phillip Workman; and nine great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 8, at 11 a.m. at the Brookview United Methodist Church with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service.
