The New York Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, National number 5380, State number 580, Henry Woodward Sackett, descendant of Buel Sackett, application examined and approved 7 March 1895, accepted 8 March 1895.
"Henry Woodward Sackett, age 41, descendant of Buel Sackett who was b. Connecticut 28 Jul 1763, d. New Lebanon, Columbia Co, NY 19 Jan 1840; applicant b. Enfield, Tompkins County, NY, 31 Aug 1853, son of Dr Solon P & Lovedy Woodward Sackett, grandson of Capt Philo & Grace Perkiins Sackett, great-grandson of Captain Buel & Sarah Beach Sackett.
[Buel Sackett] enlisted as a private in the Fifth Regt of Levies at Litchfield, Conn. July 1, 1780 and continued to serve until Dec 9, 1780 the close of the Revolutionary War. Family records and some old newspaper accounts indicate that he received a Commission as Major before the close of the War, but I can find no official records to verify this. But there is no question of his active service and that he was on duty as a soldier at the execution of Major Andre. I have found no official record of his receiving any commission until he received that of Lieutenant in 1804 and Captain in 1805 from the Governor of the State of New York, in the State Militia.
Under the Act of Congress of June 7, 1832, he was granted a pension as a soldier in the War of the Revolution, the certificate of the Secretary of War being dated May 2, 1833.
He is said to have been a friend of Lafayette and to have entertained him on his last visit to America.
For many years prior to his death he resided at New Lebanon, NY, and was well known in that portion of the country.
